Article: requesting an article from another library (ILL)

You're looking for an article, but the University Library does not have access to the full text. There are three ways to request the full text from another library. This service is called Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

Via the library catalogue

If you search lib.ugent.be and do not get (enough) search results, you can turn 'Include records from other libraries' on. The slider is situated on the left side of the page within 'All Filters'.

If you then find an article or book chapter without UGent access in your search results, you will see the 'Get it for me from other libraries' button. You can click on it to see the ILL request button on the details page.

When you click on the request button, the request form will appear. The form has already been filled in for you; all you have to do is agree to the terms and conditions.

Your library staff will look for the article and you will receive an email with a link to a downloadable PDF.

Via a database

If you're searching via a database, you can use the  (Access @)UGent-button to go to the full text of the article. If Ghent University does not have access to the article, you can request an ILL via this button. Here are some examples of what the button looks like:

Web of Science
Scopus
Google Scholar

When you click on the UGent-button, you will be redirected directly to the full text or to the catalogue. If UGent does not have access to the article, you will see the ILL request button appear in the catalogue under 'Services'.

When you click on the request button, the request form will appear. The form has already been filled in for you; all you have to do is agree to the terms and conditions.

Your library staff will look for the article and you will receive an email with a link to a downloadable PDF.

Via the bibliographical information

If you only have the bibliographical information, you can use the ILL form.

Your library staff will look for the article and you will receive an email with a link to a downloadable PDF.

Prices

ILL is free for anyone with a Ghent University account and subject to a fee for external users:

  • 10 euros for those who registered on site and have a visitor card
  • 25 euros for those who are not registered in the UGent library system
